air control™ and control force™ Two AVEDA Aerosol Sprays that We Love! The Intaglio Salon

The basic purpose of hairsprays is to keep your hair in place. Two of our favorite hairsprays that we use here at the salon are AVEDA’s two aerosol hairsprays: AVEDA’s air control™ and AVEDA’s control force™. First, let’s start with talking briefly about hairsprays in general.

When it comes to hairsprays, there is a wide range to choose from depending upon your purpose. Maybe you need "extra hold" or just want “regular hold”. Maybe your purpose is for adding curl or volume. Or maybe you are looking for weather control or heat protection. There are a wide range of hairsprays that are made for each of these intended uses. Depending upon the formulation, they can be “non-aerosol”; example “pump”, or “aerosol”. So, what’s the difference?

A “pump” spray uses a pump action and provides a more direct. more targeted spray. Most of the time these will be formulated with higher water content and less alcohol content than an aerosol spray. An “aerosol” spray usually contains more alcohol in its formulation and has a spray application that is more even as well as widespread when it is applied.

Two AVEDA hairsprays that we use often in our salon are air control™ light hold hairspray and control force™ firm hold hairspray. For conditions that make your hair more difficult to manage or if you simply are looking to add varying degrees of hold to your hair, these are two great hairsprays to have in your repertoire.

Let’s start with AVEDA’s air control. AVEDA’s air control™ light hold hair spray is a light hold hair spray with a flexible, lasting workable hold. It is also formulated to provide a humidity defense and is for all hair types! It is derived from pine resin technology, goes on dry, and eliminates static.

The smell is terrific with Aveda’s own Pure-Fume™ with Lavender, Bergamot, Bulgarian Rose, Ylang Ylang and other pure flower and plant essences. If you style your hair with any type of wave or curl or are looking to maintain a natural look; this light hold product is a must for you and one that we use often on our guests.

To use, hold the can about 6 to 8 inches from your dry hair (directed away from your eyes of course). Spray in short bursts and do not saturate. If you are looking to build more hold, layer the product. For more volume, spray towards the roots.

One of the things you want to watch is after you spray the hairspray in, you don't want to immediately touch it! Your finger pads act almost like Velcro to the hair and you will frizz out when you touch it with your fingers. To avoid this, either let it dry or use the can to smooth or something that has a smooth side to smooth your hair before you touch it.

If you are looking for a more tousled look, you can rough dry your hair using your hands and a blow dryer. When your hair is dry, lift up sections of your hair and spray each section evenly. Tease with your fingers when dry.

If you are curling your hair and you want more hold, gently spritz then curl as usual.

The second AVEDA aerosol hairspray is AVEDA’s control force™. AVEDA’s control force™ firm hold hair spray is a firm hold hair spray offering long-lasting hold, humidity defense and has a net-zero climate impact. What this means is that AVEDA funds renewable wind energy to offset the CO2 associated with the manufacturing, transportation and use of control force™ to help ensure it has a net-zero CO2 footprint on the Earth's climate.

If your hair tends to get a little bit frizzy from moisture in the air, this is a wonderful product for you! It is going to give you 24 hours of defense from humidity and has UV filters to protect you from UV rays WHICH dehydrate your hair stripping it of moisture and also helps protect color-treated hair. The aroma smells soft and powdery with notes of Bergamot, Vetiver, Palmarosa, and Lavender.

To use, hold about 10 inches from your dry hair lightly mist. Layer the product for extra hold. If you are going for a big hair look, spray onto dry hair, with your head upside down then turn right side up and use your hands to comb your hair into shape. Once you have done this, “finish” your hair with control force™.

For a ponytail, spray control force™ into the palms of your hand and smooth over pulled-back hair. Use the can or another smooth object for the final finish. Remember not to touch with your fingers until your hair is dry. Don’t be afraid to experiment and play with achieving other desired looks!

Both of these products are for all hair types! Natural, wavy, fine or straight, these hairsprays keep your hair in place with lightweight control without a football helmet coating or crusty curls! What I really like is that you can purchase a small travel-sized can that you can fit in your purse for travel or touch ups if needed. A little goes a long way!

So, behind the chair, Aveda’s air control™ light hold hair spray and AVEDA's control force™ firm hold hairspray are products that we really love! We live in Washington State in a place where summer starts July 5th. We get rain, we get wind, and occasionally sun! One of the things that we can't stand is that we just did this great style on our guest and they have to run out in all types of weather.

If you are looking for a work-horse spray that delivers a light hold or a firm hold or both, along with a soft finish and an aromatic scent, one of both of these products is the choice for you! You won't be disappointed!
